Kaş is not built around sprawling all-inclusive resorts. Its appeal is more immediate: a harbour you can wander around in the evening, small coves within reach of town, and mountains rising just beyond the rooftops. You can spend a whole evening with no particular plan, walking through the old streets, looking across to Kastellorizo (Meis) and finding somewhere to sit by the water.
Beyond the beaches
Swimming is part of a stay in Kaş, but it would be a shame to see nothing else. Boat trips, ancient Lycian settlements, mountain roads, highland villages and short excursions are all close enough to make the town a useful base for exploring.
Antiphellos
The ancient theatre stands within easy reach of the centre. It is not enormous, but the view towards the sea makes it a memorable place to visit. It also puts the modern town into perspective: Kaş occupies the site of ancient Antiphellos.
Uzun Çarşı and the Lycian sarcophagus
The sarcophagus on Uzun Çarşı is a striking piece of Lycian history, standing among the shops and everyday life of the town rather than behind a museum wall.
Why stay a few days?
One day gives you a glimpse of the harbour and the sea. With longer, you can fit in a boat trip, a morning on the beach, a drive into the mountains and a visit to an archaeological site without rushing from one to the next.
Diving in Kaş
Kaş is one of Turkey's established diving centres. Clear water, rocky reefs, islands, walls and wreck sites offer choices for beginners and qualified divers alike. Introductory dives and courses are available, while experienced divers can look for more demanding sites and underwater formations. Visibility and sea conditions vary, so choose a licensed centre and ask which sites suit your experience.
