Kalkan is a small harbour town west of Kaş, known for its steep old-town streets, whitewashed houses, rooftop restaurants and views across the bay. It feels more polished and villa-oriented than Kaş while remaining a useful base for the western Lycian Coast.
Old town and harbour
The most atmospheric part of Kalkan is the walk down through the old streets towards the harbour. The town is compact but steep, so distances on a map can feel longer on foot, particularly in summer heat.
Beaches and the coast
Kalkan has swimming platforms and beach clubs around the bay. Kaputaş Beach lies on the road towards Kaş, while Patara’s long sandy beach is reached by heading west and inland.
Ancient sites nearby
Kalkan is well placed for Patara, Xanthos and Letoon. These sites can be combined into a historical day or split across a slower itinerary with time at the beach.
Kalkan or Kaş?
Choose Kalkan if you prefer villa stays, rooftop dining and a quieter resort atmosphere. Choose Kaş if diving, boat trips, a more compact centre and access towards Kekova are higher priorities. Visiting both is easy because they sit on the same coastal road.
